    My Story

Tammy graduated from Carlton High School in Carlton, MN. After high school, she went on to receive her Bachelors in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Phoenix, as well a Masters in Addiction Studies from Capella University.

Before finding her passion in the field of substance abuse, she worked for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Trained Medication Administrator in Duluth, MN before pursuing a CNA position in both Carlton, MN and Waite Park, MN.

Not long after, Tammy discovered a deep passion for helping others struggling with addiction, which led her to become a Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor (LADC) in 2018. She started her LADC journey working with women and their children in a medium-intensity residential setting, before interning at JourneyHome in Sauk Rapids, MN.

Tammy is extremely passionate about helping others struggling with addiction and helping them learn how to enjoy a new way of living, because she knows that finding enjoyment and connection is vital to successful recovery. Tammy is also passionate about working with the veteran community and those struggling with underlying trauma. Part of Tammy's success as an LADC comes from being comfortable talking about things that others may be uncomfortable with. She's not afraid to ask the hard questions and help clients find the strength and determination to face their trauma and previous experiences. Walking side by side with them.

Another core aspect of Tammy's success as a provider is that she is a grateful recovering addict herself, living in long-term recovery. Her own trauma and life experiences have blessed her with the ability to reach others, and offer understanding, compassion, and grace.

Tammy feels very strongly about meeting clients where they are at. She accepts and understands the importance of treating every client as an individual. She knows that her clients know themselves best, but she is there to provide guidance when it comes to setting goals, helping them look at life from another perspective, and determining where they want to be long term. Together, with the client, she will cultivate a treatment plan that works for them.

Tammy is a firm believer in the notion that there is more than one way to recover, and it’s important to her that she help clients find what works for them, even if it might be different from someone else's path to recovery. She's not here to check a box, but she will hold you accountable and ensure your needs are being met.
